Fallen by Lauren Kate is the story of Luce, Lucinda Price, who is trying to hide from her past. But because of the shadows she can’t. And then she meets Daniel, someone whose behaviour she can’t understand but also someone who she can’t stay away from, and she finds out as well as the past that she’s trying to forget there’s also a past that some people are trying to stop her from finding out about.
Because the truth could kill Luce.
This book stunned me, it’s not what I expected at all. I really, really like it. It’s not the usual type of book that I read but it still managed to keep me interested. The characters were really different and unique and they felt very real.
The book had a real emotional effect on me. When Luce’s parents hugged her when she was in hospital I felt like I was about to cry and I wanted her to hug them back just as much as she did. And when Penn died, I did cry. I was really upset because I’d really come to like Penn and I felt she’d become a close friend – I felt just how Luce felt.
The cliff hanger left me wanting to find out what happened next, not fed up that I hadn’t been told everything.
The only part of the book that I really didn’t like was when Penn died, and that was because I wasn’t supposed to like it. Penn was a character that I’d really liked so I was supposed to be unhappy at that part. So points to the author for making me feel exactly how she wanted me to.
I really like the cover. It’s dark and striking and the character stands out well against the white light. It’s very dramatic and the silver writing is in a good choice of font.
So five out of five for this book – I really enjoyed it.
